De Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) heeft aangegeven dat cryptocurrency de hoogste prioriteit krijgt in 2019. De Amerikaanse toezichthouder voor verschillende effectenbeurzen heeft dit aangegeven in een recentelijk gepubliceerd rapport. De 'Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations' (OCIE), onderdeel van de SEC, schrijft het volgende:
"OCIE will take steps to identify market participants offering, selling, trading, and managing these products or considering or actively seeking to offer these products and then assess the extent of their activities. For firms actively engaged in the digital asset market, OCIE will conduct examinations focused on, among other things, portfolio management of digital assets, trading, safety of client funds and assets, pricing of client portfolios, compliance, and internal controls."
Bitcoin ETF
De onderzoeken naar Bitcoin ben cryptocurrency in het algemeen door de SEC zijn al tijdenlang onderwerp van discussie. Coinbase en Blackrock werken aan een Bitcoin ETF welke moet worden goedgekeurd door de SEC. De planning is dat de goedkeuring in het eerste kwartaal van 2019 zal plaatsvinden. De verhoogte prioriteit van cryptocurrency zal hier ook aan bijdragen.
