Academics, landlords, pensioners and traders were among the cryptocurrency enthusiasts in a queue that stretched and wound around a large conference hall in central London earlier this month.
The queue showed no sign of shortening, even when the first presentations got underway. Some of those who did manage to get inside on time for the Crypto Investor Show in Westminster were turned away from the main auditorium because of the swarming masses. Not even a 20% fall in the price of bitcoin in the week leading up to the conference could put them off. To the true believers, cryptocurrencies are nothing less than an upending of the financial order — volatility be damned.
