One of the world’s biggest digital currencies exchanges suspended trading and withdrawals during North American and European trading hours due an abrupt “system upgrade”, a day after a lengthy outage. Binance tweeted at 1:41pm London time that it would perform a “scheduled system upgrade” just after 2pm. The group said it expected the maintenance to take 30 minutes. However, it issued an update at 2:22pm saying that “Binance’s ongoing system upgrade will be extended.” Just before 3:30pm, Binance said withdrawals would begin again, with trading opening at 3:45pm.
The news follows on the heels of a similar outage that began around 3am London time on Tuesday. At the start of the upgrade, Binance projected it would take four hours, but it ended up lasting closer to 10 hours, according to updates posted on its website.
